Biography
I joined Irwin Mitchell in 2018 as a Solicitor in the Court of Protection team. I act for clients who don't have the capacity to manage their own financial affairs or make a Will.
Many of our clients have a settlement from a personal injury claim and need day to day assistance with managing their funds. I advise on:
- Applications to the Court of protection to appoint a Deputy (professional or lay)
- Applying to the Court for a statutory Will
- Managing assets through Irwin Mitchell’s professional deputyship service
- Assisting clients with adaptation projects.
I qualified as a Solicitor in September 2015. I initially worked in commercial litigation before deciding to change and follow a career in Court of Protection. The experience I have from working in commercial litigation helps me assist our clients in relation to any disputes they're involved in.
What inspired you to get into law?
I enjoy working with people and love the varied role. Working within Court of Protection has enabled me to meet some very inspiring clients and help make a difference to their lives.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
As many of our clients have received a settlement following a catastrophic injury, it's rewarding to be able to help the clients along their journey and advise them along the way.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
I'm proud to work in a firm that's ranked as Tier 1 for Court of Protection work. Irwin Mitchell’s solicitors and partners have a wealth of experience and I'm lucky to be able to learn from my colleagues for the benefit of our clients.
What do you do away from the office?
As I sit at a desk all day, I love to be active away from the office. I ran my first marathon this year (and probably my last!) I also enjoy playing netball.
Testimonials
"The solicitor handling my application, Kate Berry, was very prompt and supportive throughout the process, very much aware of what needed to be done and handled all of the legal forms, asking me to check them of course. She prepared me in advance for role of Deputy, so much so that the Office for the Public Guardian were surprised that I was so well informed when the Deputyship started." – Malcolm Campbell, 5* Trustpilot review
