I am a Family Law Solicitor and I work as part of our South Coast team and surrounding areas with offices in Southampton, Chichester and Gatwick. I am based in our Southampton office and as a team we cover Dorset, Hampshire, Surrey and East Sussex areas.
I advise on all aspects of family life following the breakdown of a relationship. I advise clients at all levels about divorce, financial settlements, the child arrangements, cohabitation separation and issues surrounding domestic violence. I also help with other matters, such as advising about post- and pre-nuptial agreements as well as cohabitation agreements.
I worked for four years with a boutique family law firm in Surrey, where I qualified as a Family Law Solicitor in 2016 before I joined Irwin Mitchell at the end of 2017. In that time, I've gained experience in a wide range of cases, ranging from high net worth divorce cases to contested children matters.
Currently, I work very closely with Kathryn Evans and Vicki Rawlins, especially on high net worth finances, matters with an international element and complex children matters.
What inspired you to get into law?
Ever since I remember I have always wanted to practice law. I can't think of any other job that I would enjoy as much. My interest in family law awakened at University, when I chose the subject as one of my modules.
Family law felt like a natural choice for me and I continue to love what I do. I enjoy the complex legal nature of work and the ability to give a human touch by making a positive difference in someone’s life when they are at their most vulnerable. I also like the opportunity to work with varied and diverse groups of clients by offering practical, pragmatic and personal advice.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
I enjoy the dual and ever-varied aspect of my role. I engage in providing technical expertise, which is intellectually challenging and constantly evolving, but I also help the clients on a personal level by building strong relationships. Often my role as a solicitor goes beyond a mere legal expert and requires understanding, empathy and at times ability just to make someone smile.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
I enjoy the vast wealth of experience and resources that are on offer at Irwin Mitchell. This also benefits the clients in cases that involve multiple areas of law.
What do you do away from the office?
Away from the office, I spend as much time as I can with my family and closest friends. In between that time, I do enjoy a good detective book or a TV series while curled up on the sofa with our rescue cat Boris. When I run out of excuses, I go to the gym or in the warmer months for a run near the sea front. Throughout my life I always lived near the sea, which I love, so I try to regularly spend time close to the sea.
"During one of the most difficult times in my life, Jelena's advice is very clear and easy to understand and has put my mind at ease. I am extremely pleased with the service I have received, Jelena is always accessible via the telephone or email and keeps me involved with the whole process. Jelena always replies fast to any questions or queries and always gave me advice on what I should do and what I should expect to happen. Very professional, but also personal, sincere and caring. Thank you Jelena and team." - 5* Trustpilot review
"Since taking over on the retirement of her colleague, the pro-active and courteous way in which I have been kept informed, and chasing up the court/other solicitors has been exemplary. This is lawyering as it should be, and stands head and shoulders above the handling of other professional services to me/family/business during the pandemic." - 5* Trustpilot review
