I am an Associate Solicitor specialising in medical negligence cases. I’m also a Solicitor-Advocate, which means I can represent clients in the higher courts in England and Wales and provide advocacy services.
My work involves securing financial compensation for clients who have suffered injury due to medical negligence. I have my own caseload as well as assisting senior fee earners. I also supervise our specialist small claims team in our Sheffield office.
I have experience in:
- Surgical procedures
- Misdiagnosis and delays in treatment
- Failures in GP and community care
- Mismanagement of mothers and babies at birth.
Before completing my training contract, I read Law at the University of Sheffield and completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Law. I qualified as a solicitor in September 2014 and gained Higher Rights of Audience in 2018.
What inspired you to get into law?
I decided that I wanted to study Law while completing my A-levels. I was fascinated by the speed at which the law changes, and the effect those changes have on every individual in society. While studying Law at university, I decided that I wanted to become a solicitor so that I could use the knowledge and understanding that I had gained to help other people.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
Being able to get financial compensation for clients and seeing how it improves their situation is really rewarding. But I also think that clients benefit from having someone to talk to during what is almost always a difficult time in their lives.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
It’s rewarding and enjoyable to be part of a team of who have their clients’ needs and goals at the centre of everything they do.
What do you do away from the office?
Outside of work I enjoy running, cycling and going on long walks with my two Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
"I received excellent service from Irwin Mitchell who dealt with my recent successful medical negligence claim. Right from the first point of contact with my solicitor, I was put at ease and guided through what I needed to do, which was in fact very little. I was kept informed at each stage and Helen, who was dealing with my claim, was polite, kind and considerate and provide all the details I needed to know. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she was professional throughout the process. Thank you Helen and Irwin Mitchell for your expert handling of my claim." - Jean, former client

"I have nothing but praise for Helen in the way she dealt with my claim against the NHS... Throughout the three years plus, Helen has been a model of professionalism and empathy. She has kept me fully informed of progress, or lack of it, and has skilfully advised me whenever a decision had to be made. Thanks to Helen’s presence the whole painful process has been made more bearable, and has led to a satisfactory financial settlement.' IP, former client
