I'm an Education Solicitor based in our Gatwick office.
My work mainly involves challenging Local Authority decisions. My clients include parents of children with special educational needs who often have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP). This is a legal document that will outline special educational needs and special educational provision required to meet the needs. It will also outline where the child or young person will attend a nursery, school, college or other educational setting.
I advocate for disabled children and young people in the special educational needs tribunal as well as running public law challenges through Judicial Review.
I'm also able to advocate and assist with Permanent Exclusions in Governing Body Hearings as well as Independent Review Panels, should your child be excluded from school.
What inspired you to get in to law?
I always wanted to work in a profession where I could make a difference in people’s lives and I decided that law would be the best fit for my personality and skill set.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
I enjoy helping people find a solution to what is often a complex problem, whether that be obtaining additional support through an EHCP or considering the best options to navigate a difficult education issue.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
I enjoy working at Irwin Mitchell as it allows me to to help children and families navigate the complex special educational needs system.
I especially enjoy working at Irwin Mitchell as it gives me the platform to to make a difference to to the lives of children and families.
Irwin Mitchell provides an expert hand and human touch and is a very personable as it will always go the extra mile to ensure the needs of the client are met.
What do you do away from the office?
Away from the office I still find myself chasing a football around a pitch a few days a week including most Saturdays. It is definitely getting harder, the older I get.
I also enjoy a spin class early in the morning, which is a lot easier in the Spring and Summer months.
When time allows, I also enjoy a good podcast and listening to the radio will often distract me from an outside run.
Many years ago I graduated with a degree in French so I find excuses to watch or listen to to French radio and television when I can.
"My legal representative Gregg B was amazing. There were times I would get overwhelmed with the Tribunal process, the terminology, the response from the local authority and he was able to simplify and clarify everything. I won my case and my son is now starting at his new school after half term. It was a long battle and one that can’t be reflected in this short review but it was all worth it. Also despite COVID, Gregg’s level of communication was still amazing and consistent." - Client
"Greg did an amazing job. Very professional and good at explaining things in simple terms. Knowledgeable in his field and always keeping me updated on things. Always worked in the best interest of my brother. The whole experience could have been extremely stressful but they made it a lot smoother and stress free due to their approach."- Client
"My son has had no proper Education and therapies which are on his EHCP for over a year. Gregg Burrough came on board to help with my son’s case back in October. It’s been a breath of fresh air to have someone like Gregg deal with our son’s case. Gregg worked tirelessly to ensure my son has justice, this was often in his own time and out of office hours. There is so much compassion in Gregg, for genuinely helping parents struggling who are battling for education for their son or daughter. Also making a real difference in young people’s life with additional needs, who are in real need for further education to help in making them as independent as possible.
Thank you so much Gregg we feel blessed to have had the support you have given our son."- Client
"Highly recommend Gregg Burrough. Gregg is excellent, fastidious and passionate. Highly recommend."- Client
