National law firm Irwin Mitchell has appointed Kunal Gadhvi as a new partner in its Restructuring and Insolvency team. Kunal joins from Edwin Coe LLP where he was a Junior Equity partner, having joined the firm in 2015. Prior to that he was at Squire Patton Boggs LLP (formerly Hammonds LLP). He will be based in Irwin Mitchell’s London office.

Kunal has considerable experience in Restructuring and Insolvency. He splits his practice between contentious and non-contentious work focusing primarily on transactional work such as business sales and acquisitions, lender security reviews and enhancement, cross-border insolvency, antecedent transaction recoveries, wrongful trading and misfeasance actions and security enforcement and fraud investigations.

He acts for a mixture of UK clearing and foreign banks (including The Royal Bank of Scotland Group), the Big Four international Accountancy firms, many of the Top 20 UK Accountancy firms, insolvency practitioners, private equity houses, asset-based lenders and international clients, including foreign law firms. In respect of his advisory practice, Kunal advises secured lenders on restructuring and refinancing of distressed loans, forbearance, standstill and modification agreements, undertaking contingency planning and providing strategic advice including in relation to security and risk assessment. Kunal also regularly advises underperforming companies and boards of directors in relation to their distressed situations, including managing key stakeholders and advising on restructuring options, and landlord creditors in relation to enforcing their rights and remedies dealing with tenant insolvency.

He joins a growing Restructuring and Insolvency Team at Irwin Mitchell which now numbers a team of 40 based in offices across the UK.

Kunal's appointment is also a boost for the firm’s London office which in the last six months has recruited partners Simon Owen from Trowers and Hamlins to head its Banking and Finance Division, Winston Green from Sainsbury’s Bank for its growing Commercial Division and Debbie Serota to join its London corporate practice.

Expert Opinion
“Kunal has a wealth of experience and a superb track record not only for delivering first class advice to clients, but also in building up a practice. He built up his practice at Edwin Coe from scratch. We are delighted to welcome Kunal to Irwin Mitchell and I have no doubt that he will be a great asset to both our business team in London and our national Restructuring & Insolvency department.”
