Rowan And Irwin Mitchell Have Teamed Up To Produce A Cook Book
Cambridge-based lawyers have swapped the office for the kitchen to help raise funds for a local charity which helps people with learning disabilities get involved in art.
‘Recipes for Rowan’ sees the students of the charity provide the artwork to accompany recipes provided by members of the Cambridge office of national law firm, Irwin Mitchell.
Rowan, which is the Cambridge office’s designated Charity of the Year for 2018, helps to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities through the provision of services and meaningful activities.
The charity runs a range of art classes for people with learning disabilities, as well as a number of studios including wood, ceramics, print, textiles and mixed media and regular music and performance workshops.
Personal injury legal specialist at Irwin Mitchell Samantha Shaw, who skydived earlier in the year to fundraise for Rowan, said:
Expert Opinion
“It’s been great fun seeing the book come together, and all the great illustrations from the Rowan students.
“This creative working in small groups with tutors enables Rowan’s students to develop social and communication skills, offering a rounded and stimulating group experience to each individual participant.
“The active participation in community events and arts activities is also important as a means of connecting directly with our local community and cultural heritage. Meeting people in new and different environments help to stimulate ideas and discussion as well as being a platform for enabling greater social inclusion.” Samantha Shaw - Senior Associate
‘Recipes for Rowan’ is available for £5 and includes 28 recipes, ranging from the traditional Lithuanian soup, Saltibarsciai to gammon and vegetable pie with Mediterranean favourites in between.
It can be purchased by contacting Samantha at Samantha.Shaw@IrwinMitchell.com or calling 01223 791815.
Hetti Wood, Communications Ambassador at Rowan, added: “We are incredibly grateful to Irwin Mitchell for their continued support and this fantastic cook book is just the latest in a range of brilliant activities we have tackled together as part of our partnership.
“It is fantastic to have the importance of our work recognised by the wider community, such as by firms like Irwin Mitchell, and we really appreciate their help.”
