Five Star Holiday A ‘Disaster’ After Illness Ruins Special Trip

A couple who saved for a special trip abroad with two young children have instructed travel law experts at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the illness they suffered after they all fell seriously ill during their stay at the Mirage Aqua Park Hotel & Spa resort in Egypt.  

David Rudd, 39, from Netherley, Liverpool planned the trip for his partner Helen Provost and her son Layton, 10, and daughter Amber, 7. 

The couple had concerns from their first few nights in the restaurant where they noticed that on occasions some of the food, to include chicken, which was pink on the inside when cut open. 

David further confirmed that at times the swimming pool appeared cloudy and when he saw the pool being cleaned, the equipment they were using to clean it also appeared dirty.

Just a few days later, and only four days into the holiday, David began feeling unwell. He was confined to the hotel and suffered from diarrhoea, vomiting, cold flushes and hot sweats. 

In the days that followed Helen, Layton and Amber all suffered from similar stomach problems which ruined the rest of their holiday.  

The family has now instructed International Personal Injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the cause of their illness.

“It’s worrying to hear that four holidaymakers, including two young children, from the same group all fell ill on what was supposed to be a nice enjoyable holiday.

“We are currently investigating the concerns of the family in order to identify what caused them to fall ill.

As we conduct our investigations we would urge anyone else who experienced illness at the hotel to contact us immediately.”

Once home David visited his GP to aid his recovery but David continues to suffer from his illness. The family are demanding answers as to what caused their illness, 

David said: “We spent ages saving and looking forward to this special trip only to fall ill.

“The trip was a disaster with all four of us being seriously ill. You do not expect this to happen whilst away on holiday. 

“I raised concerns to the management after watching on a number of occasions staff not changing their gloves when handling raw food and cooked food, and also on at least two occasions I saw cats roaming around the tables where people were meant to eat.  Members of the staff made no efforts to move them on.

“We weren’t the only people to be unwell at the resort and hopefully Irwin Mitchell can help us find out why this happened and what caused us to fall ill.”
