Families ‘Must Be Priority’ Following Cardiff Steelworks Explosion

Serious Injury Lawyers Call For Thorough Investigation Into Tragic Incident

Specialist serious injury lawyers have urged that the families of those killed and injured in the explosion at the Celsa steelworks in Splott, Cardiff are properly supported in the aftermath of the tragic incident, while calling on authorities to conduct a thorough investigation as soon as possible.

Two workers died and a further four were injured in the explosion on Wednesday (18 November) morning.

Irwin Mitchell’s specialist serious injury team also represents the families affected by the Bosley Wood Flour Mill explosion in July and is currently investigating the cause of the explosion, as well as providing support and assistance to those affected in managing the devastating consequences including the inquests in relation to the incident.

Stephen Nye, a Partner and expert serious injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, said:

Expert Opinion
“The absolute priority at present is undoubtedly ensuring the loved ones of workers caught up in this tragic incident are given any support they require.

“Many others caught up in the blast have also lost friends and colleagues and may need support or therapy to recover mentally from this tragedy.

"It remains too early to say what caused this incident, but the police and the Health and Safety Executive will now work together to produce a thorough report into what occurred at the steelworks and decide if any further action is necessary, as well as providing the answers workers, and the families of those who lost their lives, are desperate for.

“Any findings from the investigation may also pin-point lessons that can be learned and measures that can be implemented to prevent a similar disaster in the future."
