Coach Trip Group Contacted Lawyers At Irwin Mitchell Following Illness At Russell Hotel
A large group of people who visited Weymouth on a coach trip have instructed expert public health lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate why many of them fell ill during a stay at the Russell Hotel in Weymouth.
The group travelled to the hotel on 9 February 2015 as part of a coach trip and they have reported that they had to wait approximately 3 hours before they were allowed to check into their rooms because the hotel was not ready for the guests as it was reportedly being fumigated.
Approximately 25 of the group decided not to risk becoming ill and decided to wait for the next coach to return home. Those who chose to do this have said that they had to wait until early hours of the next morning before they were able to go home.
A large proportion of those of the group who stayed at the hotel for four nights suffered gastric symptoms, including vomiting, diarrhoea, headaches, achy limbs and fever. They have also reported to the lawyers that other people staying at the hotel at the time appeared to be suffering with similar symptoms.
Lawyers at Irwin Mitchell, who have represented those affected by a recent illness outbreak linked to the Beresford Hotel in Newquay, have now begun an investigation into the cause of the illness linked to the Russell Hotel.
Expert Opinion
It is extremely concerning to hear reports of yet another widespread illness outbreak at a UK hotel. <br/> <br/>"In our work acting on behalf of groups impacted by illness, both in the UK and abroad, we are fully aware of the long-term impact it can have on those affected. In many of our cases we have represented individuals who continue to suffer symptoms of the illness for the rest of their lives. <br/> <br/>"It is imperative that steps are taken to understand the cause of this illness outbreak and how these issues could be avoided in the future. Our clients want to know why their trip to Weymouth was ruined by illness and hopefully, a thorough investigation will help to provide our clients with the answers they deserve after their annual trip away together was ruined by illness.
