Surrey Police are continuing to investigate after a tour manager died and a singer with the band Fisherman’s Friends was seriously injured in an incident at a Guildford concert venue on Saturday (February 9th).
Paul McMullen from Cheshire suffered serious leg injuries and died at the scene after he and singer Trevor Grills became trapped under a metal door at the G Live venue. Mr Grills was taken to St George’s Hospital and remains in a critical condition.
The group had been due to perform at the venue later in the day.
Police have confirmed the Health and Safety Executive have been notified of the incident.
David Urpeth, a Partner at Irwin Mitchell who specialises in providing support to those injured in incidents in public places and in workplace accidents , said it was vital that a thorough investigation is carried out into what happened.
He outlined: “This is clearly a shocking tragedy and it is absolutely vital that everything possible is done to determine what caused this terrible incident.
“All aspects will need to be carefully considered, with the ultimate aim of developing a full picture of events that in turn will lead to a better understanding of what, if anything can be done to prevent the same type of problems in the future.
“Any lessons need to be learned in relation to this and our thoughts are with the families of both victims.”
