Coldplay and Plan B’s Tinnitus Experience ‘Will Raise Awareness Of Problem’

Noise-related hearing loss lawyers at Irwin Mitchell have welcomed a new campaign involving Coldplay’s Chris Martin and rapper Plan B to raise awareness of the need to protect those in the entertainment industry from tinnitus.

Both of the stars are backing Action on Hearing Loss’s latest efforts to raise awareness of the dangers of loud music, with Martin revealing how he has suffered from tinnitus for around a decade and now regularly wears earplugs as protection.

He added in an interview that he wished he had considered the problem earlier, while Plan B has suggested he sleeps wearing earplugs in order to combat the tinnitus he suffers.

Legal experts at Irwin Mitchell act for a number of people who have suffered tinnitus and noise-related hearing loss as a result of employers failing to give them adequate attention.

Mark Allen, an associate director at the firm’s Sheffield who specialises in industrial deafness, said: “It is welcome to see such high-profile celebrities speak out on the issue of tinnitus and how it has impacted on their lives.

“In our experience, we’ve seen many employers simply underestimate the impact that exposure to high levels of noise can have on their workers, often leaving them open to the risk of tinnitus and further conditions.

“We are very hopeful that this campaign will not only raise awareness of this issue, but also encourage more people to come forward and speak about how such problems have impacted on them.

“It is also very important that employers do everything they can to help workers who could face such problems.”
