New Documentation Calls For Better Communication To Prevent Health Issues
An industrial illness expert at Irwin Mitchell has backed calls for improvements to be made to ensure workers are suitably protected from the risks which can be posed by nanomaterials.
New official documentation from the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work has raised concerns about a lack of awareness among those involved in work to manufacture nanomaterials and the potential dangers which can arise in their handling.
The organisation has called on employers to ensure that communication strategies are put in place to tackle the issue and have introduced new guidance.
Mark Allen, a legal expert at Irwin Mitchell who specialises in helping those who have suffered serious illness as a result of environmental hazards in the workplace, said: “It is worrying that these concerns have been raised about this sector and we hope that employers embrace the issue of improving health and safety.
“We act for people across a number of industries who have suffered as a result of safety failings, including problems which have emerged due to communication breakdowns in workplaces and other sites.
“The importance of full communication on such issues cannot be underestimated and we hope that improvements are seen in this area in the future.”
