Employment Team To Hold Social Media Seminar
South Yorkshire companies are to receive advice about benefits and pitfalls of social media within the business world at a special seminar hosted by Irwin Mitchell.
The firm’s Employment team is focusing its annual legal update on social media and the workplace at 8-10am, 13 October 2011, at its Riverside East Offices.
The seminar will focus on how businesses can set boundaries that enable use of social media to their advantage whilst ensuring that mechanisms are in place to address misuse. There will also be consideration of recent case law on social media issues and a discussion of how similar issues can be avoided in your workplace.
From producing a basic website with contact information to using sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to promote products and services, many businesses are increasingly making use of social media to increase their profile in the marketplace and to enable employees to maintain business connections.
Liesel Whitfield, an employment specialist at Irwin Mitchell, said: “The use of social media as a business and personal tool has increased dramatically over recent years.
“However, without clear boundaries and policies, social media can easily be misused with potentially seriously damaging consequences for businesses.
”We’ll be looking at the use of social media by businesses and their employees, the benefits that it can bring and the potential pitfalls it can create.”
