Authorities Launch Investigation Into Tower Millennium Pier Incident

Four people were hospitalised on Wednesday night (October 5th) after being injured when a riverboat on the Thames crashed into the Tower Millennium Pier in London.

The Moon Clipper boat was reportedly carrying 57 people when it struck the pier, which is close to both the Tower of London and opposite HMS Belfast.

Whilst no one on the pier was hurt, in addition to those hospitalised, some other passengers also received treatment from ambulance service operators who attended the scene.

The police, the Marine Accident Investigation Branch and the Port of London Authority are now investigating the incident.

David Urpeth, a Partner and public liability claims specialist at Irwin Mitchell, urged the authorities to work quickly to determine what caused the incident.

He outlined: “It is very concerning to hear reports of this boat’s collision with the pier and while it is welcome that no one suffered serious injuries, it is vital that lessons can be learnt which can reduce the chances of such an incident ever happening again.

“It is understood that this route and the ferries which travel on it is very busy, so both holidaymakers and others who make use of the service will be keen to know that efforts have been made to improve safety.

“We act for many people who have been injured through no fault of their own and it is always important that those involved respond in the right manner and ensure safety is a priority.”
