Rosie’s Coffee Morning Fundraiser For Spinal Research

Fundraising Event In Dronfield

Irwin Mitchell client Rosie Mayes is organising a coffee morning, raising funds for Spinal Research.

Rosie Mayes, 21, and her friend Catherine Tankard, are hosting the fundraiser on Saturday 16 April 2011, from 10am – 12 noon, at the Jolly Farmer on Pentland Road in Dronfield. The funds raised will be donated to Spinal Research, the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop reliable treatments for paralysis caused by a broken back or neck.

Rosie, from Sheffield, was seriously injured in December 2009 when the car she was travelling in overturned. She sustained damage to her spinal cord, and is now tetraplegic.

At the time of her injury, Rosie was studying History at York University. She is planning to return to university in September 2011, this time in Sheffield, and with the help of her family and support team, has no intentions of letting her injury impact upon what she wants to achieve in her life.

Aside from her academic goals, Rosie continues to attend gigs and festivals, and is getting ready for her first trip in June 2011 with the Back Up Trust, a charitable company who exist to inspire independence in people affected by spinal cord injury.

Rosie is currently living in Dronfield with her parents Andy and Wendy, and her brother Dave, while she waits for adaptations to be completed on her family home.

“It would be great to see as many people as possible at the coffee morning” Rosie said. “The work that Spinal Research do is extremely important to people who have injuries like mine, and the more people who come along, the more funds can be raised to donate to Spinal Research”.

The event is being supported by Rosie’s solicitors, Rachael Aram and Stacy Gee. Stacy commented “It is absolutely inspirational to see Rosie organising fundraising events at a relatively early stage after suffering a spinal cord injury herself. We are delighted to be invited and will be encouraging our family and friends to do the same”.
