Children's Buggies Pose Injury Risk
British stores have removed two types of children's buggies from the shelves after their manufacturer warned they posed a serious risk of injury to infants.
The Early Learning Centre and Mothercare withdrew the Push Around and Whisper Ride buggies from sale after US firm Step2 announced a voluntary recall of the products.
According to the firm, the handle can become detached from the buggy if a pin attached to a knob on the handle loosens.
The firm said: "This poses a serious risk of injury to young children. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed and contact Step2 for a free repair kit."
No injuries have been reported in the UK but elsewhere the company has received 28 reports of the handle detaching, two incidents which needed professional medical treatment and 26 resulting in minor scrapes and scratches.
A spokeswoman for Mothercare and the Early Learning Centre said: "Due to the concerns raised in the US over the safety of Step2 red and pink Push Around toy buggies sold at the Early Learning Centre and the blue Whisper Ride toy buggy sold at Mothercare, we have decided to remove these products from sale pending further information from Step2."

Gary Walker from law firm Irwin Mitchell said: "We are shocked to learn of the potentially dangerous faults with these buggies which are by design for use by young children and babies.
"We are pleased that the stores have taken steps to no longer sell these products and would urge them to allow concerned parents to return any buggies and offer a full refund.
If you or your child has been affected by this then please contact us."
