Soul Night Pays Tribute To Great Barr Man’s Love Of The Blues

Fund Raiser for Asbestos Related Cancer, Mesothelioma

Soul Night Pays Tribute To Great Barr Man's Love Of The Blues

A Great Barr fundraiser is hoping a forthcoming charity music event at Birmingham City's football ground will be 'soul'd-out' and net much needed money for a cause close to her heart.

Karen Wright, from Thornbridge Avenue in Great Barr, has fundraised tirelessly ever since her own father, Derek Hoult, died in November 2001 from the asbestos related cancer, mesothelioma.

Karen has so far donated more than £30,000 to the June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund and is hoping to raise hundreds of pounds more from her latest charity event which takes place at the Blues ground this Friday 2nd July, with live music from Motown and Soul band, 'Soul'd Out.'

Karen explained: "My Dad was a lifelong Blues supporter so the evening is really a tribute to him.  We are hoping that the evening, which has been sponsored by Irwin Mitchell Solicitors and also includes a charity auction, will raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause and hopefully one day help find a cure for this terrible illness for which there is currently no cure."

Derek Hoult, who was also from Great Barr was exposed to asbestos at work in the 1960s. He was diagnosed with mesothelioma in September 2001 and died just six weeks later aged 64.

Friday July 2nd also marks Action Mesothelioma Day, which aims to raise awareness about the illness.

Tickets for this Friday's Motown and Soul night at Birmingham City ground are available priced £10 from Karen Wright on 0121 608 8989 or via kazwright@blueyonder.co.uk.
