Man Dies Under Industrial Mower

Work Accident

A man cutting grass at a golf course died when he became trapped under an industrial mower, according to police.

Derbyshire Police and the ambulance service attended the scene at Stanedge Golf Club, in Ashover, Derbyshire.

"They reported a man had been cutting the grass at the golf course on one of those industrial mowers. He had come off and it had landed on him," said a spokesman. "He subsequently died - he was pronounced dead at the scene."

The man was in his 50s and from the Bolsover area. The police spokesman said that preliminary investigations into the incident had begun, but had since been passed onto North East Derbyshire District Council.

A council spokesman said: "Officers from the council's environmental health service - in liaison with the police - are to undertake a full independent investigation under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

"This investigation is ongoing and will try to determine how this tragic incident occurred."

David Urpeth from law firm Irwin Mitchell said: “This was a horrific fatal accident. The circumstances of this tragic work accident are not yet fully known.

“I welcome the fact that there is to be a full investigation into the circumstances.

“I hope the investigation will establish the cause of the accident in the hope that no one else is killed in a similar accident at work."
