Boy Attacked By Dog

Police are investigating after a five-year-old boy was attacked by a dog in the street, resulting in the youngster having to have surgery on his face.

The boy was bitten above his top lip and on his nose and suffered scratches on his cheek and ear in the attack in Grimsby, north east Lincolnshire, police said. He was taken to Diana Princess of Wales Hospital before being transferred to Hull Royal Infirmary for minor surgery.

Police were called to the scene after an emergency call from a member of the public. Officers removed a dog from an address in the town and have taken it into kennels.

The incident came two days after nine-year-old Zoe Stenton was attacked by a dog as she played with friends in a garden in Castleford, West Yorkshire. Zoe was taken to hospital with injuries to her face after being attacked by the Japanese Akita-Alsatian cross.

Katrina Elsey from law firm Irwin Mitchell said: "Unfortunately, I regularly see children who have been bitten by dogs and have been left with permanent scarring to either the face or other parts of the body. Being bitten by a dog is a terrifying experience which often leads to both physical and psychological distress."
