National Law Firm Welcomes Improvements in Britain's Health and Safety Record
National Law Firm Irwin Mitchell welcomed today's report that work-related injury and illness figures are down on previous years.
The report, published today by the Health and Safety Commission, showed that the number of working days lost in 2005/06 due to work-related injury and illness fell by 10 million to under 30 million compared to figures for 2000/02.
Serious and fatal injuries also fell by 6% to under 30,000.
David Urpeth, partner in the Workplace Injuries team of Irwin Mitchell which handles thousands of claims for workers every year, commented "The significant drop in the number of working days lost to workplace injury and illness is a step in the right direction.
"However, though we welcome today's figures, thousands of people are still suffering unnecessarily from serious injuries or illnesses as a result of their work and businesses must continue to improve safety standards in order to keep this figure falling."
