Latest Appointment Demonstrates Continued Investment In Expanding Business Division
Law firm Irwin Mitchell has announced the continued expansion of its commercial team with the appointment of new partner Matthew Sillett into its London office.
The latest senior hire is a significant boost to the five partner commercial practice and reflects Irwin Mitchell’s continued investment in its national offering for corporates and financial institutions as well as its private client services. The new partner also follows the recruitment of Kate Fergusson as head of Responsible Business from Pinsent Masons last month.
Matthew moves from Cannings Connolly in London where he was the managing partner. Prior to this he has been a partner at Brown Rudnick, Speechly Bircham and Osborne Clarke.
During his 12 years at Cannings Connolly he led the corporate and commercial practice and acted for a range of clients across various business sectors including technology, fintech, automotive services and gaming.
He has many years of experience advising clients in relation to commercial contracts, IT projects, IPR matters and banking, as well as general business lifecycle issues and owner manager advice and mentoring. He also advises on M&A transactions, including private equity buy-outs.

Commenting on his arrival, Matthew Sillett added:
“Joining Irwin Mitchell is a wonderful opportunity and I’m really looking forward to getting to know all of my new colleagues across the business.
“The corporate environment continues to be challenging but I firmly believe that as a trusted advisor to our clients, it’s our responsibility to help them navigate difficulties whilst helping them take advantage of the opportunities that exist and lie ahead.
“Irwin Mitchell has a clear purpose and well-articulated growth strategy which is focussed on each client’s individual journey. I find this approach to be really refreshing and believe it will ensure the firm continues to differentiate itself in what is a crowded market.”
Irwin Mitchell recently announced it had recruited Jonathan More as a new construction partner in its London office.
Several other new partners have also been recruited in recent months, including Christine Thornley in tax, trusts and estates, Kam Madjavadia in will disputes, Angela Jackman in public law and human rights and Danielle Parsons and Deborah Casale in employment.
The firm also confirmed last year it would use a Flexible By Choice approach to ways of working with colleagues choosing where and when they wish to work subject to client requirements.
