Manchester Office Raises Almost £17,000
A team of employees from law firm Irwin Mitchell has won a competition to raise money for youth charity The Prince’s Trust.
Irwin Mitchell raised almost £17,000 as part of the tenth anniversary of The Prince's Trust Million Makers Competition, and beat other teams to become the best in the North West. They now go onto the national final later this month to try to win the national trophy.
The law firm raised the money by organising a ‘Roaring 20s’ themed charity ball. More than 230 guests from across Manchester attended the event last October at the Imperial War Museum North, with all money raised going directly to The Prince’s Trust.
Irwin Mitchell’s recent fundraising takes the total raised for The Prince’s Trust to more than £50,000 over the last four years.
Irwin Mitchell managed to turn their start-up funding of £1,500 into nearly £17,000 – which will go towards supporting more disadvantaged young people in the UK to turn their lives around. The Prince’s Trust helps disadvantaged young people to get their lives on track. Three in four young people supported by The Prince’s Trust move into work, education or training.
The team’s result was announced at Restaurant Bar and Grill in Manchester on 28 February 2018.
Victoria Hollyoake, Real Estate Solicitor at Irwin Mitchell, who led the Irwin Mitchell Million Makers’ organising committee, said:
The Prince’s Trust Million Makers Competition, sees businesses from across the UK compete over six months to raise the most money for The Prince’s Trust by setting up their own mini-enterprises. The aim is to raise £1 million nationally.
Prince’s Trust Ambassador and BBC Dragons’ Den Investor, Deborah Meaden, is supporting the competition for its tenth anniversary celebrations. Since its launch in 2008, Million Makers has proved popular with companies wanting to develop the skills of their employees through real-life action learning whilst also giving back to the local community. By its ninth year the competition had raised £8.3million cumulatively and is aiming to reach £10 million by 2018 with the support of companies such as Irwin Mitchell.
About the Million Makers competition Deborah Meaden said: “As a successful entrepreneur myself, I’m delighted to be able to support The Prince’s Trust Million Makers competition. Million Makers is an excellent way to encourage, whilst also raising valuable funds to help disadvantaged young people in the UK. The companies and teams that take part are doing a fantastic thing and we should all be encouraging them in whatever way possible.”
