Man Spent Three Days Of Week-Long Holiday In Hospital And Spent Further Week In Hospital Back In The UK
A holidaymaker who continues to undergo hospital treatment months after developing gastric illness during a holiday in Benidorm has called on lawyers to help him gain answers regarding his ‘nightmare’.
David Waring, 63, from Morecambe developed symptoms including diarrhoea, vomiting, dizziness, shakes and fever four days into his week-long stay at the Sandos Benidorm Suites at the end of November with his wife Jacqueline, 60, which was booked through Jet2holidays Limited.
The problems proved so severe that David required treatment from the hotel doctor who then advised him that he would need to go to hospital. David spent three days in hospital while abroad and then needed a further week in the Royal Lancaster Infirmary in late February 2018.
With his health problems showing no signs of improving, David has now instructed Irwin Mitchell’s specialist International Personal Injury team to investigate his experiences and help him gain answers regarding how he developed his illness.
Amandeep Samra, the specialist travel lawyer at Irwin Mitchell who is representing the couple, said:
Expert Opinion
“We are hugely concerned about the first-hand account we have heard regarding our client’s holiday and have already started to make our own enquiries into the problems David faced. As part of our work, we would be keen to hear from anyone else who may have stayed at the resort and can help with our enquiries.
“As this case clearly demonstrates, holiday illnesses should never be underestimated as they can go on to affect victims for many months after they return home.
“Our clients are understandably frustrated by what they have been through and we are determined to help them gain answers regarding the ordeal.” Amandeep Singh Samra - Associate Solicitor
David and Jacqueline’s stay at Sandos Benidorm Suites began on November 25th and he started to suffer from illness problems only four days later.
David said: “The illness completely turned our holiday on its head and I was in a really bad way. I was devastated when I was told I needed to be admitted to hospital, as you simply never expect something like this to happen on what is meant to be a relaxing break.
“The food served at the hotel was of a poor quality on occasions. One meal I had at the al a carte restaurant tasted metallic. The food was also sometimes left uncovered and on occasions I saw new food being added to existing food.
“Having to spend time in hospital back in the UK was also massively frustrating and now I simply want to know how I managed to develop a very serious illness and whether more should have been done to prevent it from happening.
“The illness and my on-going symptoms have had a huge impact on our lives. The past few months have been incredibly difficult and I just want answers regarding this nightmare as to what caused me to fall ill.”
