Robot Revolution Requires Greater Ambition Says Juergen Maier
An independent review published today has highlighted the benefits to the UK economy of robotics, 3D printing and artificial intelligence.
The influential report, led by Siemens UK’s Juergen Maier, will help inform the government's industrial strategy plans.
It says Britain’s manufacturing sector could unlock £455bn over the next decade and create hundreds of thousands of jobs as a result of Industry 4.0.
Despite the huge opportunities, the report says a huge number of workers would need to be retrained.
Amongst the proposals, the report proposes more targeted support for companies, re-skilling workers, and a National Adoption Programme piloted in the North West.
A national commission in charge of turning Britain into a global leader in industrial digital technologies is also recommended.
