Settlement Approved By High Court Of Justice Will Help Provide For Care
A London man who suffered a stroke that left him with permanent physical and mental disabilities has been awarded a seven-figure settlement after the NHS Trust responsible for his care admitted liability for failing to provide anti-coagulant medication.
The 74-year-old had a history of heart problems and had been fitted with a stent and pacemaker. In February 2011 it was found he had an irregular heartbeat and he was prescribed warfarin but four months later despite repeated visits to his GP and a 2nd appointment at hospital, he had still not received his medication and suffered a stroke.
The stroke left him fully dependent on others for help with even simple everyday tasks and his family instructed specialist medical negligence lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the care he received from the University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Trust admitted liability for the negligent care he received and has agreed a settlement that will help cover the costs of the care he will need for the rest of his life.
Marcos Eleftheriou, a specialist medical negligence lawyer at Irwin Mitchell representing the family, said:
