“Jewels of Japan” Voyage Spoilt For Couple Following Illness
A couple who booked a luxury cruise on board the Queen Elizabeth ship to celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary say their cruise was ruined when one of them was struck down with gastric illness.
Moira and John Perrins have instructed expert international personal injury lawyers Irwin Mitchell to take action against Iglu.com Limited trading as Planet Cruise, after John fell ill with sickness and diarrhoea during the 10-day cruise around Japan.
The pair, from Stourbridge, boarded Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth “Jewels of Japan” 10-day cruise on March 20 this year to mark their milestone wedding anniversary.
But just two days into the voyage, the Perrins found a note in their cabin warning of an outbreak of illness on board.
Days later John found himself suffering with horrible gastric symptoms including diarrhoea, sickness and painful stomach cramps and he was confined to the cabin, bringing the relaxing holiday to an abrupt end.
Expert Opinion
“Moira and John chose this cruise as a special break to mark ten years of marriage. It was supposed to be spent relaxing together and enjoying the voyage, but instead John was left suffering painful gastric illness and unable to leave their cabin.
“Gastric illness is incredibly unpleasant and the effects can last much longer than the initial symptoms. In this case John still felt ill for the rest of his holiday.
“No one goes on a cruise expecting to suffer from illness as John did and we will now be investigating on their behalf. Any passengers who suffered similar issues should get in touch as they may be able to help with our enquiries.” Amandeep Singh Samra - Associate Solicitor
Moira, 51, said it was clear that John wasn’t the only one to suffer gastric illness.
“The ship was very quiet,” she said. “You could tell a lot of people around us were unwell. One person even threw up in the restaurant.
“It was horrid. Until the notice was pushed under the door, we had no idea that there was an outbreak of gastric illness on the ship. There were a lot of rumours about diarrhoea and sickness going around the ship and we heard from other passengers that there had been illness on board the ship before we boarded. Once the cruise had departed, you just had to wait and hope it didn’t affect you. Unfortunately, we weren’t so lucky and John needed to contact the doctor on board.
“John and I would like to know what caused John to fall ill and hope Irwin Mitchell’s investigations will assist with this.”
