Retail giant Amazon has registered a British trade mark for its new cashier-free bricks-and-mortar grocery store - but according to trade mark specialists at law firm Irwin Mitchell, it doesn’t mean that a launch in this country is imminent.
The online company said recently that it will open its first Amazon Go store in Seattle next year however after it registered a UK trade mark for the innovtive concept this month, speculation that it could start to roll it out more widely has intensified.
Iain Richardson at Irwin Mitchell however said:
Amazon Go will use technology that automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to shelves, allowing customers with the app to walk out of the store without queuing or scanning their items. Customers are then charged via their Amazon accounts shortly after leaving the store.
