Expert Serious Injury Lawyers Call For Safety Improvements After Three Serious Incidents
Expert serious injury lawyers have called for significant safety improvements to be implemented in relation to large vehicles carrying heavy cargo and those fitted with swinging arms following a series of serious accidents.
Three recent incidents, in Leicester, Walsall and Altrincham, have seen people injured and killed when swinging arms fitted to large vehicles, or cargo loads, have not been safely secured.
A woman was killed in Altrincham when the swinging arm of a lorry swung out as it turned a corner, knocking down traffic lights and hitting the woman, who was waiting at a pedestrian crossing.
A second incident in Walsall left a woman with a serious head injury when she was struck by a metal girder that had not been secured on the back of a lorry.
Laura Bailey, a serious injury expert at law firm Irwin Mitchell, who represents a pedestrian who suffered a brain injury when he was struck by a swinging arm as he stood at the side of a road in Leicester, said:
