Southampton Law Firm To Host Charity Quiz

The medical negligence team at Irwin Mitchell’s Southampton office are to host a ‘Brain of Brainwave Quiz’ to support and raise funds for the Brainwave charity on September 17 at the Royal Southampton Yacht Club.

The Brainwave charity impacts on the lives of over 600 children with additional needs. Brainwave’s growth and regional outreach has been driven by the commitment to bring measurable improvements to the lives of children with physical, sensory, learning and cognitive difficulties.

The charity works with children with a wide range of conditions and developmental needs including: cerebral palsy, genetic conditions, Down’s syndrome, autism and developmental delay.

A key success of Brainwave has been the ability to recognise the impact having a child with additional needs has on their family and empowering them to deliver therapy to their child at home.

Continuous support from the team and regular assessments with skilled therapists’ means that Brainwave is able to adjust the therapy required as the child grows and progresses, meaning that support is available for as long as needed.

The event will include welcome drinks and a light meal for all attendees prior to the quiz. Guest speakers on the evening will include parents of the children who use Brainwave services.

Julie, mother to two-year-old Hattie, who is registered blind and has a rare genetic disorder called Joubert Syndrome which affects part of her brain that controls areas such as balance, co-ordination, breathing and muscle tone, said: “We first attended Brainwave in January after hearing about it from a friend we weren't sure what to expect we just knew we wanted to do more for Hattie to help her but were unsure about how best to do this.

“We spent two days at the centre where she had one to one sessions with two physiotherapists and I can honestly say that it was just amazing we watched our little girl work hard and be encouraged to do things that we had no idea she could do.

“We went home with a program of exercises that we incorporate into our everyday life and we can see such progress and a real difference in Hattie we can't wait to go back in August.”
