Collision With Tipper Truck During Rush Hour In Victoria Ended In Death
A cyclist was killed in Victoria following a collision with a tipper truck this week. The woman is the fourth cyclist to have been killed in London this year.
The incident occurred at 8am on Thursday morning (February 19th) during rush hour on Victoria Street. The cyclist's bike was crushed under the wheels of the Gordon Plant Hire lorry.
The truck had just turned on to the road from an adjoining one-way street when it hit the cyclist on the inside. The driver stopped at the scene, and no arrests have been made.
Each of the four cyclist deaths in London this year has involved a lorry.
The most recent crash happened very close to the scene of a similar incident in April 2013, which resulted in the death of University College London scientist Katharine Giles.
Expert Opinion
It is incredibly worrying to see a yet another tragic incident in which a cyclist has been killed on London’s roads, with there now being four such incidents since the start of this year alone. <br/> <br/>"That figure is simply too high and it is vital that the circumstances of each of the collisions are carefully reviewed and investigated, with a view to determining what happened and also preventing similar incidents in the future. <br/> <br/>"All road users deserve to be able to travel safety and it is vital that everything possible is being done to reduce the risks that motorists, cyclists and others face on daily basis."
