The body’s ninth annual progress on OECD Anti-Bribery Convention enforcement assesses the use of the convention for curbing the export of corruption globally and has classified countries by four defined levels of enforcement.
While the UK, US Germany and Switzerland lead the way, concerns remain over 20 countries responsible for 26.9 per cent of world exports including Japan, Netherlands and Russia.
Transparency International has stated that getting lagging governments to meet commitments “should be a top priority”, with the challenge being ensuring political support in countries which are struggling while maintained support for the convention in those whether there is enforcement.
The organisation also stated that build the necessary political support would need advocacy from government leaders and work on that level should be a priority for 2014.
Transparency International has around 90 chapters across the globe, with the UK division specifically working to combat corruption and reduce the country’s role in corruption across the world.
