Dangers At Work And How To Protect Employees To Be Discussed At Free Event
Specialist work place injury lawyers at law firm Irwin Mitchell will be hosting a conference to explore the dangers we are exposed to at work and how to minimise risks.
The free event, called ‘The Dangers In Work and The Wider Environments: How Safe Are You?’ will take place at the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow in association with representatives from Stirling University’s Department of Occupational and Environmental Health on Thursday, 28 February 2013.
This specialist conference is aimed at employers, contract workers, trade unions, health and safety executives, councils and other industry professionals.
Elaine Russell, a partner at Irwin Mitchell’s Glasgow office will be attending the event. She said: “At Irwin Mitchell we see too often the devastating consequences accidents at work can have on people’s lives so we hope this conference will provide a real insight into the dangers employees are vulnerable to and what employers can do to protect them from injury.
“We have invited some fantastic speakers to the event who I’m sure will provide some interesting presentations and debates. We hope to see as many industry professionals with an interest in improving health and safety in the workplace at the event.”
Speakers will include Professor Andrew Watterson, from the Occupational and Environmental Health Research Group at Stirling University, who will be discussing work hazards in Scotland and how cuts to regulatory changes are affecting firms.
He will be joined by Ian Tasker, the Assistant Secretary of the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC), who will be offering a union perspective about what’s happening generally in work places in Scotland.
David Snowball, the Director for the Health and Safety Executive’s Scotland and Northern England division, will also speak about the changing focus of the HSE in Scotland and how to cope with shrinking budgets and shifts in regulations.
Paul Beaumont will also discuss the problems associated with asbestos in schools, John Finney will talk about how an independent Scotland would regulate itself and Professor Phil Taylor, from Strathclyde University Business School, will present information about precarious work situations.
