Call For Consumers To Return Certain Types Of Multipacks
By Rob Dixon
Food manufacturer KP Snacks has launched a product recall in relation to certain multipacks of its McCoy’s crisps range, following concerns over plastic found in some packets.
The voluntary recall relates to six-packs of salt and malt vinegar, cheddar and onion and ‘the classics’, as well as 15-packs of the latter. Only products with a best before date of June 15th and a code of 3066 are applicable.
According to KP, it had received a small number of complaints regarding “small pieces of plastic” found in the packs and had taken the step of the recall as a precautionary measure.
News of the recall has come days after confectionary giant Nestle launched a recall of four different types of Kit Kat Chunky, following complaints that plastic had been found in some bars.
David Urpeth, a Partner and specialist in personal injury at Irwin Mitchell, said it was worrying to see two similar cases emerge so close together.
He said: “As with the Kit Kat Chunky concerns, it is vital that all consumers thoroughly check products if they are concerned they may fall under the criteria outlined by the manufacturer.
“Many of those affected will be worried as to how the plastic came to be present in these crisp products, as well as wanting to know what steps are being taken to ensure that the same problems are not repeated in the future.
“The importance of product safety cannot be underestimated, as we have seen cases in the past when people have suffered serious injury or illness as a result of problems within the food production process.
“We hope that everything can be done to ensure improvements are seen going forward.”
