Problem Picked Up In Internal Quality Control
Global car manufacturer BMW has launched a recall of more than 200,000 Mini vehicles after concerns were raised over potential problems with an electric water pump.
Around 30,000 cars in the UK – including Cooper S and John Cooper Works models – built between March 2006 and January 2011 are thought to be affected by the issue, which was spotted by internal quality control systems and could in extreme cases cause heat build-up and potentially fire.
Owners are to be contacted by letter in the coming weeks, when they will be informed that part replacement can be completed for free at a Mini dealership.
No reports have yet been seen in relation to injuries or road accidents caused by the issue.
Gary Walker, a product liability specialist and solicitor at Irwin Mitchell, acts for those who have been injured as a result of defective or faulty appliances and products.
He said: "It is welcome news that no one is believed to have been hurt as a result of the issue flagged by BMW, but we would urge anyone with concerns that their car may be affected to seek advice as soon as possible.
"This is obviously a potentially serious defect in these cars’ operating systems to which BMW are responding appropriately by recalling them for remedial treatment".
