Expert Welcomes Action Over Imported Products
The director of a Suffolk company has been fined around £2,500 and ordered to pay costs after admitting charges over breaching toy safety standards.
Ian Ford of IKF International Ltd was prosecuted in relation to 12 charges over the importing and selling of products found not to meet recognised regulations in relation to safety.
It was heard in court that specific concerns were held over the suction cups on arrows included in some of the products, as they could be detached and were a choking risk.
Irwin Mitchell’s product liability experts represent a number of people who have been injured following problems with defective items and those fail to meet the relevant safety standards.
Katrina Elsey, a solicitor who specialises in helping those hurt in such a manner, said: “Any prosecution that puts the spotlight on the dangers of defective or dangerous products must be welcomed.
“Consumers have right to know that items they purchase meet the necessary regulations and companies need to be aware that they will be held to account if they do not fully check this when importing goods.
“I hope that this case sends a signal out to firms that they must always take the necessary steps to ensure that the safety of the public is their primary concern.”
