Expert Urges Authorities To Act Quickly
An accident at work claims specialist at Irwin Mitchell has urged authorities to quickly discover the cause of an incident in which a lorry driver was fatally injured.
The 45-year-old driver from Staffordshire was killed when his load of concrete slabs fell from a flat-bed trailer and on to him at Tibshelf Services on the M1 in Derbyshire on Tuesday afternoon (January 11th).
Police officers, who have launched a joint investigation into the incident with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), are keen to hear from any possible witnesses.
Commenting on the reports, David Urpeth, national head of workplace injury at Irwin Mitchell, said it was vital that events leading up to the fatal accident were carefully considered.
He said: “This is clearly a devastating work accident and, as details on it remain sketchy, it appears a number of questions remain about how it came to pass.
“Falls from height and injuries caused by falling objects remain a worrying cause of serious and fatal accidents.
“The HSE and the police must work quickly to discover what could have caused this tragic fatal accident.
“Any information that could be gathered may play a key role in ensuring that lessons are learnt from this case and that no one else suffers in the same manner.”
