One Man Killed And Another Injured In Incident
An investigation is continuing into a fatal accident at Ipswich Docks in which a 52-year-old man died after suffering crush injuries.
The police and Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are working together to examine the site after Neville Wightman, 52, was killed while reportedly moving a pontoon on to a flat bed trailer when the lorry being used overturned.
Another man from Lowestoft, believed to be in his 40s, is in a serious condition in Ipswich Hospital following the work accident.
David Urpeth, national head of Irwin Mitchell’s workplace injury team, acts for both victims and the families of those killed or injured in serious industrial accidents.
Commenting on the incident, he said: “Very little is yet known about what happened at the docks, although it is clear something has gone terribly wrong. It is up to both the HSE and the police to ensure that as much can be learned about the industrial accident as soon as possible.
“A thorough investigation will hopefully provide answers over how and why this incident occurred, which ultimately could lead to both improvements in safety standards and prevent anything similar from happening again in the future.
“For the sake of the families of both men, it is vital that all of the questions surrounding this work accident are resolved both quickly and thoroughly.”
