Lincoln County Hospital Reveals Plans

The decision to remove asbestos insulation boarding from a hospital has been noted by a lawyer.

Simone Hardy of Irwin Mitchell reacted after the Lincolnshire Echo confirmed that Lincoln County Hospital is set to remove the materials from the service voids behind the walls of its maternity unit.

United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust has said there is no evidence of material in the air, although staff told the newspaper they had to wear protective overalls and equipment in the area.

Discussing the move, Simone Hardy, who has dealt with a large number of cases linked to asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma, said it was important that work was carried out in the correct manner.

“While I welcome the decision to remove asbestos from the hospital, it is vital that it is completed in strictly controlled conditions so both staff and the public are not at risk of contracting asbestos-related illnesses,” she explained.

“We hope this removal process will ensure no one at the hospital is put in danger.”
