Pleural Plaques Compensation
Following meetings between ministers and insurance companies, campaigners may finally see a breakthrough so that suffers of asbestos-related condition plural plaques can be paid compensation.
It is thought that ministers will announce the decision that insurance companies will pay around £5,000 to individuals in compensation within weeks.
Westminster sources have said that a personal interest in deal efforts has been shown by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Adrian Budgen, a Partner from law firm Irwin Mitchell said: "It was decided in October last year that pleural plaque sufferers were no longer entitled to compensation which impacted many of our clients throughout the UK.
"Pleural plaques is a scarring of the lungs contracted by exposure to asbestos and this decision will be a relief to those diagnosed with the disease."
