Illness outbreak - Gran Bahia Principe, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Travel law experts at Law firm Irwin Mitchell, who are currently representing more than 1500 clients who have contracted illness while staying at the Bahia Principe hotel at San Juan, in the Dominican Republic have today confirmed that they have also been instructed by around 50 clients affected by a sickness bug at its sister hotel, the five star Gran Bahia Principe hotel in Punta Cana also in the Dominican Republic.
The Gran Bahia Principe, which is approx. 200 KM from San Juan, has over 600 rooms and is a popular destination for many British Holidaymakers.
The outbreak at the Gran Bahia Principe devastated the wedding celebrations of Jaqueline (34) and Nicholas Gair (36) from Benfleet in Essex who were both ill during their stay. Despite their symptoms they managed to make it through the ceremony; however one of the bridesmaids was so ill she had to be carried back to her room straight after the ceremony.
In total more than 30 of the 48 guests at the wedding suffered from severe stomach cramps, diarrhoea, vomiting, headaches and nausea during the trip in July 2007 including the Brides Father and the parents of the Groom.
Bride, Jacqueline Gair said "It is still so sad to think about what should have been such a beautiful time for everyone was ruined by how ill we all were. We thought that by booking a five star hotel we would avoid any problems like this, we were sadly mistaken."
