Cruise illness ruins holiday
Two hundred passengers on board the Sea Princess sailing out of Southampton, operated by Princess Cruises have fallen victim to a virus outbreak and have had their cruises ruined. The ship was unable to visit Lisbon as a result of the illness on board.
Some passengers have been offered refunds. Many have had their holidays affected and have been confined to their cabins as a result of symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea.
Cruise ship claims for virus outbreak
Cases involving cruise ship claims are not uncommon and we have dealt with a number of previous claims arising from outbreaks of noro virus, which is a highly contagious bug which causes symptoms ranging from severe vomiting to diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Suki Chhokar of, specialist travel litigation solicitor of Irwin Mitchell comments 'Often simple preventative measures can be taken to avoid virus outbreaks of this type. In many cases these episodes not only ruin peoples holidays but can result in long term health issues'.
We have previously been successful in cruise ship claims such as that arising from an incident on board the MS Sundream where the total compensation amounted to a six figure sum.
