Illness outbreak at Torremolinos Beach Club Hotel
Travel law specialists, Irwin Mitchell have voiced concerns following the increasing number of reports of illness at the Torremolinos Beach Club Hotel, in Torremolinos, Spain.
Irwin Mitchell has received reports about a large number of people affected by Gastric illness following stays in June and July at this hotel.
This is not the first time that this particular hotel has been the centre of an illness outbreak. Hundreds of holidaymakers suffered illness during stays at the Torremolinos Beach Club Hotel at various times between October 2000 and July 2002. Irwin Mitchell have subsequently won substantial damages against a number of English Tour Operators for over 150 clients who were ill because of stays at the hotel.
Philip Banks, an Associate Solicitor with Irwin Mitchell solicitors, who specialises in legal cases involving overseas accidents and illness, said:
"I am concerned to see these reports of illness rising again in recent weeks at this particular hotel. As well as successfully winning compensation for over 150 clients who suffered illness during stays at the Torremolinos Beach Club, we are currently representing almost 800 additional holidaymakers who stayed at the Torremolinos Beach Club Hotel between 2000 and 2002 and were struck down with illness."
Illness outbreak at Torremolinos Beach Club affected elderly and children
Many of those taken ill, including large numbers of children and the elderly, complained of vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach cramps and, although many victims have now fully recovered, some clients were so badly affected that, according to medical experts, they may never make a full recovery.
Despite a long history of illness at the hotel, Tour Operators during the outbreak in 2002 continued to send holiday makers to the hotel without warning them of the risks of contracting illness. There was also misinformation about a resort wide illness problem, while our investigations point to the Torremolinos Beach Club being the centre of the outbreak.
Mr Banks concludes: "I am very interested in contacting anybody affected by the recent outbreaks of illness at the Torremolinos Beach Club Hotel. The recent problems raise significant questions about the safety standards adopted by the hotel and the tour operators who are sending holidaymakers there."
