Laura Wilkinson

I make claims on behalf of people who suffering from asbestos related diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer, asbestosis, or diffuse pleural thickening. I have specialised in this area since qualifying as a solicitor in 2010.

I have gained experience in conducting claims from first instruction up to trial and built strong working relationships with solicitors, barristers and a range of experts in the field. I strive to achieve the best possible outcome for my clients whilst acting professionally and in an approachable and caring manner at what is an incredibly difficult time in their lives.

What inspired you to get into law?

I wanted a career that was both challenging and rewarding at a personal level whilst helping and benefitting people at the same time. I thought that a career in Law would tick these boxes and so made the decision to study Law at degree level.

I never looked back and, after achieving my degree, promptly studied the Legal Practice Course and completed a two year Training Contract before qualifying in 2010.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?

The most rewarding aspect of my job is being able to make the lives of my clients and their families that little bit easier. Achieving a successful outcome for them means alleviating any financial worries they may have at a time when their focus should be on their health and enjoying time with their loved ones.

I work closely with my clients and their families during the lifetime of their claims and also appreciate just how much a successful outcome means to them insofar as achieving justice.

What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?

I like the fact that Irwin Mitchell’s culture is all about getting the best out of its people by providing the support, opportunities and facilities needed to develop personally and professionally. We are all encouraged to share knowledge and experiences within our own teams and across offices.

This benefits our clients who can feel confident that their claims will progress according to the most up-to-date legal developments and principles.

What do you do away from the office?

I enjoy spending time with my husband and our young son, which often involves travelling around the country finding wildlife parks and beaches! When not in “Mummy” mode, I love a spot of retail therapy, going to the theatre, eating out and spending a relaxing day at a spa with family or friends.
