Irwin Mitchell Join Forces With Brain Injury Charity For Glitzy Event In Glasgow
A charity has joined forces with a leading law firm to encourage fundraisers to attend its first ever masquerade ball this autumn. The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) is hoping as many supporters as possible will dress in their black tie finery and lavish masks for the picturesque ball, due to be held on Friday, 23 November 2012 at the Oran Mor arts and entertainment centre in Glasgow’s West End.
The serious injury team at Irwin Mitchell’s Glasgow office is sponsoring the Venetian-esque event, the first of its kind for the trust.
Musicians from the Billy McIsaac Band will entertain guests and fundraisers will have the opportunity to bid for covetable prizes in an auction hosted by Real Radio presenter and former Scottish international goalkeeper Alan Rough.
Caroline Gow, from the trust, said: “We are incredibly excited about hosting our first ever masquerade ball and hope to see as many of our supporters from local businesses or other good causes to support us by coming along dressed in their classy costumes and mesmerising masks. Anything goes, from simple masks to more daring and elaborate head pieces, but we hope everyone will share in the carnival spirit with us whatever they wear.
“All the money raised will really help boost the charity and help us continue to provide the life-changing rehabilitation and advice for people who have suffered an acquired brain injury, and their families.”
The trust, based at Graham Anderson House in the centre of Glasgow, is a special neurobehavioral assessment and rehabilitation hospital for people with acquired brain injuries.
It forms part of the nationwide network of specialist rehabilitation centres provided by BIRT and helps people who are experiencing behavioural disorders or emotional problems following a brain injury. Staff help service users become more independent and to come to terms with their injuries.
Elaine Russell, a partner and lawyer who represents many victims of serious injury at Irwin Mitchell, said she hopes the ball will raise the profile of the charity’s life-changing work.
She said: “This is the first large-scale charity event BIRT has organised and we hope it will inspire many more.
“At Irwin Mitchell we do so much work helping people get access to vital treatment and rehabilitation after they have suffered a brain injury so they can get their lives back on track. We see first-hand the devastating impact brain injuries can have and that’s why we support the amazing work of the trust.
“We are really proud to sponsor this event and hope everyone has a great time boosting the charity’s fundraising pot while championing its wonderful work.”
Up to 200 tickets, which cost £45 each or £400 for 10, are available for the event. Auction prizes already include tickets to see a Glasgow Warriors match, lessons at The Glasgow Climbing Centre and vouchers for a pampering day out at a beauty salon.
