Police Investigate Fatal East London Car Crash

Man Killed In New Year's Day Incident

A crash in East London which led to the death of one man and left seven others injured is being investigated by police.

Five vehicles collided in the incident close to Newbury Park underground station on New Year’s Day, with emergency services reaching the scene just before 4pm.

A 69-year-old man who was a passenger in one of the cars was pronounced dead at the scene. Two of the injured were taken to Royal London Hospital, while the other five were sent to Queen’s Hospital in Romford.

It has been confirmed that one man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Colin Ettinger, who specialises in serious injury claims at Irwin Mitchell’s London office, said: “It is vital that police officers work quickly to discover what caused this terrible incident.

“We deal with a number of cases related to road crashes and have seen first-hand the long-term physical and emotional impact such incidents can have on both victims and their loved ones.

“Any answers that are provided by the authorities could act as a vital step towards ensuring no one else is hurt in such a manner again.”
