Company Pleads Guilty To 16 Fire Safety Offences
A string of serious fire-safety failings have resulted in a waste management services company being fined more than £62,000.
Dorset Fire Authority brought the prosecution against Total Waste Ltd after an investigation into the Creekmoor paper recycling company discovered 'extremely serious fire safety breaches'.
The firm pleaded guilty to 16 fire safety offences - including wiring shut a fire exit and disabling an alarm - leading to a fine of £40,000 plus costs of £22,688.82.
David Urpeth from law firm Irwin Mitchell said: “I welcome the fine imposed for what were shocking deficiencies by Total Waste ltd.
"These breaches could have led to a terrible work accident involving significant loss of life of employees of the company.”
