Work Accident In Wales
A tree feller has died in Mid Wales after becoming trapped under a tree on the back of a timber lorry.
The accident happened while the man had been cutting trees in the Cascob area of Presteigne.
Emergency services rushed to the scene in an effort to free the injured man, and an air ambulance was also called. But the man later died from his injuries.
Dyfed-Powys Police are due to meet with the Health and Safety Executive to discuss the accident.
A spokeswoman for the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the incident occurred on an unclassified road. She said they were responding to reports that a man was trapped underneath a tree at the rear of a timber lorry.
Fire-fighters used an airbag, saws and hydraulic cutting equipment in a desperate bid to free the man. He was then placed on a spinal board before being flown from the area.
A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Police, Fire Brigade and the Ambulance Service attended the scene. Tragically the man died on his way to hospital. Health and Safety have been advised."
