2 Children Hurt in Fairground Ride Accident

Two children were treated in hospital after they were injured in a fairground ride at a big South Yorkshire leisure event. The children were among a number of people on a Ski Jump ride at Rotherham Show when it came to a halt on Sunday 9th September. The children were taken to Rotherham District General Hospital suffering from arm and leg injuries. A number of other passengers on the ride also suffered bruising in the incident.

Health and Safety experts were called in immediately and the ride was shut down while they carried out an inspection. Rotherham Council said it would also be carrying out its own investigation into what happened. Some visitors to the show claimed the ride appeared to have become partially derailed. The Ski Jump was one of a number of fairground rides at the Clifton Park show, which is billed as one of the North of England's biggest leisure events.

This year it attracted more than 80,000 visitors over two days. A council spokeswoman said: The accident is still under investigation and at this stage it is not exactly clear what happened. We are awaiting a report from the experts.
