Pair Injured in Tug Boat Collision

Two men have been injured after a tug collided with a number of safety boats at the scene of a recent fatal accident in West Wales.

The pair were rescued after the incident close to a liquefied natural gas terminal at Milford Haven.

It comes after a 44-year-old rig worker, believed to be a Dutchman, died on Saturday when a floating maintenance rig collapsed at the same location.

Dyfed-Powys Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched an inquiry into the incident.

The Milford Haven Port Authority said: "Milford Haven Port Authority has launched an investigation after a collision involving the tug, Smit Barracuda, contracted to BesixKier, and a number of safety boats.

"Two people were thrown into the water as a result of the incident, but both were rescued and taken to hospital.

"The Port Authority has ordered all marine activity in the vicinity of the jetty to cease while the investigation is carried out. The rest of the Haven remains open as normal."

Work at the scene needs to be done in a way that provides workers with a safe place and safe system of work. Sadly, I deal with many cases where employers have failed to provide a safe working regime and as a result workers are injured or killed in workplace accidents.
