Irwin Mitchell’s Gatwick Office Nominates Charity of the Year
A Crawley-based hospice is set to benefit after lawyers and staff at the Gatwick office of Irwin Mitchell nominated it to be their Charity of the Year for 2018.
The national law firm’s initiative sees staff across each of its offices hold a range of events throughout the year to raise funds for local causes which have been selected through a vote.
The programme is part of the work of the Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation, an independent charity which last year celebrated its 20th anniversary and has raised more than £1.6 million for charities in the UK and abroad.
This year, the Gatwick office of Irwin Mitchell has voted to support St Catherine’s Hospice, which provides care to locally terminally ill people and their families across West Sussex and East Surrey, with the ambition of helping everyone face death informed, supported and pain-free.
Expert Opinion
“The Charity of the Year initiative has been a fundamental part of our efforts to actively support the local communities where we are based for many years and we are proud to have helped a number of incredible causes along the way.
“St Catherine’s Hospice is a fantastic organisation and we are already hard at work planning out the range of events which will be held across the year to raise vital funds to support the incredible work it does.” Faye Bargery - Partner
Previous charities supported by Irwin Mitchell’s Gatwick office include Crawley Open House but this year it is the turn of St Catherine’s Hospice.
The hospice cared for almost 2,000 people last year and focuses on providing people with whatever specialist care they and their loved ones may require. The majority of people they care for are looked after in the comfort of their own homes and some examples of their work include helping a patient celebrate Christmas early, arranging a walker so a patient was able to buy a surprise bouquet of anniversary flowers for his wife and , and providing counselling to bereaved families.
Funds raised for the charity will go towards helping them to provide care to even more people in the local area and to ensuring that no one has to face death alone, in fear or in pain.
Sophie Peckham, Philanthropy Manager at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “We are delighted to have been selected to be Irwin Mitchell’s Charity of the Year for the Gatwick office.
“We are looking forward to working with them to raise money that will provide vital support to people in the local community."
